Meera's swayamvar annoys fundamentalists

Pakistani starlet Meera is drawing widespread ire in her country for participating in a reality TV wedding show where she is out to select a groom. Kaun Banega Meera Pati, being aired on Pakistan's Geo TV, draws inspiration from the swayamvar format of Indian shows such as Rakhi Ka Swayamvar and the currently- aired Ratan Ka Rishta.

On the show, Meera is currently getting acquainted with her 13 prospective grooms, one of whom will win her hand in the finale. The show has been on air in Pakistan for three weeks and has telecast three episodes so far. It airs once every week on Fridays for about an hour.

The show promos feature Meera, who has acquired the reputation of being Pakistan's drama queen, as a coy and blushing bride. " I am looking for an ordinary person with extraordinary qualities, to be my sharique- e- hayat ( husband)," she said.

Meera has declared that in the 26th and final episode, she will choose one of the 13 men for marriage. The prospective grooms include a software manager in a multinational firm, a civil engineer and a restaurant manager. " I am hopeful that I will be able to find the man of my dreams on this show," she said in the first episode.

While the show has raised curiosity so far because it is a novel concept in her country, a section of hardliners are clearly not happy with the idea of a Pakistani woman openly selecting her groom from among several men.

While Geo TV has not received any official protest yet, many feel that sustaining the show till its end could be difficult - what with the growing animosity on the net towards the concept. Clips of the show on YouTube, for instance, have drawn nasty comments about the actress and her prospective grooms.

One netizen, MrZah2010 wrote: " an inside source told me that all the losers ( guys) are actually struggling artist and they get between 2500- 5000 rupees per episode for dis show, meera's boyfriend is actually the producer of dis show who is 1 of da excutives in geo tv, dis is full k* njar mahol...( sic)". Baalo 2001 wrote: " The funniest show on tv.... starring the b* tch and 13 losers ( sic)." Meera has remained a controversial figure in India as well as Pakistan.

Not long ago, reports did the rounds suggesting she was married to a Pakistani businessman named Atiq- Ur- Rehman. Meera subsequently denied the reports. In 2005, Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt launched her opposite Ashmit Patel in their production, Nazar.

The film bombed despite Meera sharing some steamy scenes with Ashmit. She reportedly received death threats from Islamic purists for doing the intimate scenes. Meera recently returned to the limelight when she publicly accused Mahesh Bhatt of slapping her on the sets of his film.

Media zoom in on mystery Schwarzenegger mistress

As America's top comedians lampooned the former California governor and "Terminator" star, U.S. media hunted down the member of his household staff with whom he admitted fathering a child, while he was married to Maria Shriver.

The woman was identified in numerous media reports as Mildred Baena, a 50 year-old separated former housekeeper at the Schwarzenegger household, who has a registered address in the central California city of Bakersfield.

Some reports said that Schwarzenegger bought the house for her last year. Television crews and reporters swarmed to the property on Wednesday but found no-one at home. Schwarzenegger's spokesman declined comment, citing a request on Tuesday for privacy for all those involved.

Celebrity website TMZ.com published a birth certificate which appeared to confirm that the child, a boy, was born in October 1997, making him now 13 years old. If correct, it would mean that Schwarzenegger's out of wedlock son was born a week after Shriver delivered the couple's fourth child, Christopher, in September 1997.

Shriver, a member of the Kennedy political family and a former TV journalist, made her first public appearance since the scandal broke, appearing at the side of Oprah Winfrey at a farewell show for the TV talk show host in Chicago on Tuesday night. "You've given me love, support, wisdom, and most of all, the truth," Shriver told her old friend Winfrey.

Celebrity website Radaronline.com in a joint investigation with the tabloid Star magazine claimed that the housekeeper was fired by Schwarzenegger after 20 years service in a bid to save his marriage to Shriver. The woman had earlier told the Los Angeles Times that she decided to retire in January 2011.

The power couple announced last week they had separated earlier this year. Meanwhile comedians are having a field day with the man now dubbed the "Sperminator". Long-time Schwarzenegger pal Jay Leno joked on "The Tonight Show" on Tuesday that, "He kept this hidden for over a decade, which is pretty shocking. I had no idea he was that good an actor."

Conan O'Brien quipped that "Arnold has made two 'Juniors' that he doesn't want to talk about. Remember that movie from 1994?" Schwarzenegger's private life is expected, however, to have few repercussions on his bid to return to show business after ending his term as California governor in January.

The producers of upcoming movie "Cry Macho" and animated TV comic book series "The Governator" told the Hollywood Reporter they were going ahead as planned. In a stroke of irony, "The Governator" stars Schwarzenegger as a crime-fighting superhero with a lair underneath his home so secret that not even his wife and kids are aware of it.

Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan fined in India

Mr Khan was detained earlier this month at Delhi airport for allegedly carrying a large amount of undeclared cash. His manager, Maroof Ali, who was detained along with him, has been fined an equal amount. They were stopped on their way to Dubai. They were later released but their passports were confiscated.

Officials said the $124,000 found on Mr Khan has also been confiscated. They said the singer and his manager would be allowed to leave the country once they have paid the fine. The incident has become headline news in India and Pakistan. Mr Khan, 37, has sung several Bollywood hits and performed in India in the past. He is the nephew of Pakistani singing legend Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

AN erratic Christina Aguilera has refused help from staff despite drunkenly passing out at a party. The singer has reportedly been out of sorts ever since she split from husband Jason Bratman. But when her staff attempted to persuade her to seek help, Christina threatened to fire them.

Veena wants Shiv Sena in Pak 'Bigg Boss'

If Pakistani starlet Veena Malik had her way, she would pit former President Pervez Musharraf against the Shiv Sena in a Pakistani version of 'Bigg Boss', the reality show that brought her to the limelight.

Veena, who has taken on the mullah brigade for calling her "immoral" for her appearance on 'Bigg Boss', was asked in an interview about the contestants she would choose if Pakistan were to host the reality show.

"Former President Pervez Musharraf, (former minister) Sheikh Rashid, (parliamentarian) Jamsheed Dasti, Shiv Sena, Nargis, (Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief) Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Aishwarya Rai, actress Meera and Britney Spears," she said, naming her dream list of contestants.

Asked if she would repeat any contestant from 'Bigg Boss 4', she told 'The Express Tribune' newspaper, "Dolly Bindra. Even the very thought of this show is very funny. This could be hilarious."

Sanjay Dutt says Noorani issued threats through dons

A day after a court ordered the attachment of two properties of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt over a financial row with producer Shakeel Noorani, the actor's lawyer Wednesday claimed that he received extortion calls from the underworld in 2005 at Noorani's behest. The film producer rubbished the allegation.

"Sanjay Dutt does not owe a single penny to Shakeel Noorani. Noorani, in the past, has been demanding money from Sanjay Dutt. Mr. Dutt has received extortion calls at the behest of Shakeel Noorani. The complaint was lodged with the Anti-Extortion Cell and late (senior police inspector) Vijay Salaskar was investigating the case," said Rizwan Merchant, Dutt's lawyer.

"Statement of Sanjay Dutt has been recorded. Shakeel Noorani was also personally called to the office of the Anti-Extortion Cell," he added. Merchant said that when Noorani did not succeed in his extortion demands in 2005, he (Noorani) made a complaint to the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association (IMPPA), which was rejected. "Once a complaint is rejected, a subsequent complaint is barred. The IMPPA could not have passed any award once the first complaint was rejected," Merchant said.

Noorani, however, rubbished all allegations made by the actor's lawyer. "In fact, Sanjay Dutt has threatened to get me shot if I chase him to complete my film. He had personally thrown me out of the set where he was shooting for his film "EMI" when I requested him to finish my film," Noorani said.

Sanjay Dutt says Noorani issued threats through donsNoorani also denied making any extortion calls, claiming that he had no underworld connections. "It is Sanjay Dutt who has underworld connections. He often met people from the underworld when we went for shooting abroad," he said. "I was also never called for questioning by Salaskar. You can check the records if you want," he told reporters.

Noorani also claimed that the IMPPA had never rejected his complaint. The Bombay High Court Tuesday ordered the attachment of two properties of Dutt. The decision followed an arbitration award passed by the IMPPA in January in favour of Noorani.

The properties ordered to be attached include the actor's flat in the Imperial Heights building at Pali Hill in suburban Bandra and his office in suburban Santa Cruz. Dutt has 30 days to pay Noorani, failing which his properties will be auctioned. The actor can also challenge the order in the high court.

I wasn't in a relationship with Veena: Hrishant

Pakistani actress Veena Malik may have been swooning over him in reality show Bigg Boss 4, but Indian model Hrishant Goswami says he had no intention to get into a relationship with anyone. "I had made my stance very clear about this in the 'Bigg Boss' house. I was not looking for a relationship at all. I have a career to focus on," Hrishant told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

The young and dashing model, who was undoubtedly the most good-looking male contestant on "Bigg Boss 4", was evicted out of the show Friday. He insists Veena was often "misunderstood" and says she was a nice girl.

"I think it was nice that she was quite vocal about whatever she felt. She was honest and very sweet and I reciprocated that...but I was never in the mindframe of getting into a relationship, and especially with her," said Hrishant. The 25-year-old says he went through a "self-realisation process" while he was locked inside the house with other celebrities, without any communication with the outside world.

"There's a lot that I learnt about myself. Things like that I do get carried away with what people say, and react rather aggressively at times. I need to tone all that down. I am also very strict about certain things. But I have realised that I need to be flexible in life. So, the self-realisation process was amazing," he said. All in all, Hrishant says he had a "blast" on the show, and is now hoping to get back to his social life in Mumbai. He is hoping to bag some movie offers too.

"I am really hoping that this show has got me the kind of visibility that I haven't been able to get over so many years. Everyone - from producers, directors, casting people...they watch 'Bigg Boss'. So I am looking forward to a boost in my career now." Among the remaining contestants on Bigg Boss 4, Hrishant feels actor Ashmit Patel and former dacoit Seema Parihar will survive the longest, and will be the top two.

Lohan's future on hold until jail, rehab are done

Lindsay Lohan's future includes a new fashion line, two new movies, some time in jail and another stint in rehab. The actress was sentenced Tuesday to 90 days in jail and 90 days in a residential substance-abuse program for violating her probation stemming.

From two separate 2007 cases of driving under the influence of cocaine and alcohol. She is to surrender and begin her jail sentence July 20. Rehab will follow.

The punishment, levied by Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel, will keep Lohan from promoting "Machete," the Robert Rodriguez action film due in theaters in September. Fox, which is releasing the film, had no comment Tuesday.

Lohan's jail and rehab sentence will also delay production on "Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story," in which the 24-year-old actress plays the starring role.

Writer-director Matthew Wilder said after the ruling that he and his crew remain "100 percent behind Lindsay." "We are proud to have this remarkable artist work on our film," he said.

Lohan's sentence may also prevent her from further promoting her new fashion line, 6126. The first items from the 280-piece collection are shipping out to department stores nationwide this month. Lohan was instrumental in the line's design and marketing plans and is featured in its promotional materials. Her business partner, Kristi Kaylor, did not immediately respond to phone and e-mail messages seeking comment.

Lohan's agent, Nick Styne, declined to comment Tuesday. Her manager, Jason Weinberg, did not respond to an e-mail request for comment.

Kerry Wallum, a producer with Lucky Films, said Lohan was in negotiations for a role in the upcoming Willie Nelson flick, "The Dry Gulch Kid," and that the production would wait for her if she wanted the part.

"We're behind her," he said Tuesday. "We'll wait until all of this blows over."

Revel chastised Lohan for missing a court hearing in May while at the Cannes Film Festival and repeatedly skipping out on court-mandated alcohol-education classes. She said Lohan lied about using drugs and tried to blame others for the two driving offenses when the original charges were filed.

A tearful Lohan pleaded with the judge before the sentencing, saying she did the best she could to juggle jobs and the court-ordered classes and really tried to comply with the terms of her probation.

"I'm not taking this as a joke," Lohan said. "It's my life. It's my career I've worked for my entire life."

Revel said she found the starlet's apology insincere, comparing it to "somebody who cheats and thinks it isn't cheating if she doesn't get caught."

Lohan burst into tears upon hearing the terms of her punishment. Her sister, Ali, and father, Michael, were also in the courtroom and cried after the ruling.

Lohan spent 84 minutes in jail in 2007 after she pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of cocaine and no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08 percent and one count of reckless driving.

The plea came after a pair of high-profile arrests earlier that year. Lohan was sentenced to three years of probation but had to ask for a yearlong extension in October after she failed to complete her alcohol-education courses on time.

Prosecutor Danette Meyers argued Tuesday that Lohan wasn't taking the charges or her punishment seriously and urged jail time for the actress.

"You have not caught her attention," Meyers told the judge. "I appreciate the tears, but I don't think you've got it."

Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, claimed that the actress had adhered to the spirit of the law, if not the letter.

"She has gotten it together," Holley said. "She changed her conduct and is now in compliance with the court's overall order."

Lohan may serve less than her 90-day sentence, thanks to jail overcrowding and a state program that credits inmates for good behavior, said Los Angeles Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore. Nonviolent female misdemeanor offenders typically serve about 25 percent of their sentences, he said.

Lohan will be taken to the Century Regional Detention Center - the same jail that housed Paris Hilton for 23 days in 2007 after she was found guilty of driving on a suspended license while on probation in an alcohol-related, reckless-driving case.

Lohan's jail sentence could impact a civil lawsuit filed after Lohan's second arrest in 2007. A woman in a car chased by the actress sued for infliction of emotional distress and the case is scheduled to begin trial a week after Lohan surrenders. It is unclear how much of the trial Lohan would have attended, although she is listed as a potential witness in the case. A hearing was set for Wednesday in Beverly Hills.

Football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo and Reality TV star Kim Kardashian were recently caught kissing in Spain.

Wow, these celebrity stars never cease to surprise you. The couple was seen having a romantic dinner in Madrid after Kim Kardashian flew to the city for a low profile three day trip.

A source in Madrid reported that Ronaldo and Kardashian were seen getting along pretty well and were smiling all the time.
