Justin Bieber and Drake win Grammy nods

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber got his first Grammy nomination on Wednesday night, and his good friend Drake will be competing with him for the title of Best New Artist at next year’s awards ceremony.

They both won nominations Wednesday night at a special concert at Club Nokia in Los Angeles that was carried live on CBS and Global. Three other nominees for the Best New Artist category are Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons, and Esperanza Spalding. Arcade Fire, meanwhile, is up for Album of the Year — arguably the show's top prize. The Montreal rockers will compete with four of the biggest acts of the past year: Eminem, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum and Katy Perry.

“I want to thank all my fans and everybody . . . I don't know what to say,” Bieber said in a televised interview by satellite from London, Ont., near his hometown of Stratford, right after the announcement.

When host LL Cool J pressed the mop-topped 16-year-old on how he felt — noting that he was now a superstar — Bieber replied: “It feels good.” Then he added, “I don’t think of myself as a superstar. I think of myself as just a regular person living my dream, you know.”

Later, a seated Bieber — now wearing a fitted L.A. Kings hat backwards — performed his “Favorite Girl” while strumming an acoustic guitar.

He admitted on Twitter later that he was caught off-guard by the news. “Ok kinda shellshock. Well not kinda . . . totally shellshock. Don't even remember what I said. #HOLYCRAP”

Drake, meanwhile, had been nominated for two Grammys at the show earlier this year, months prior to the release of his platinum-selling debut, “Thank Me Later.”But the 24-year-old was still eligible for best new artist thanks to a change in requirements that allowed previous nominees to be nominated for the award as long as they didn't win.

Drake wasn't in L.A. for the show — in fact, he was spotted earlier in the evening sitting courtside at a Toronto Raptors home game. Eminem got the most nominations — 10 — to enter the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 13. That show will also air on CBS and Global. Bruno Mars got seven nominations, with six each for Jay Z, Lady Antebellum and Lady Gaga.

Cee Lo Green’s song “F--- You” was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year (for songwriting). That tune became an instant viral hit earlier this year but had to be changed for radio to “Forget You.” Green was also nominated in two other categories. During the show, Katy Perry, who got four nods, played her hit “California Gurls” in a glittering dress outside the Staples Center, while Bruno Mars and Train also performed.
