Now it’s official. American country singer Chely Wright finally came out on Monday, May 3 and announced to the public that she is a lesbian. Last week, there were rumors buzzing show business as to which celebrity will announce that he or she is gay. Turns out it’s Chely Wright.
In an exclusive interview with People.com, Chely Wright, 39, reveals, “Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out.”
She recalls her youth in the South, where she experienced a community in which the issue of homosexuality was avoided. The 39 year old artist, an Academy of Country Music awardee.
As Top New Female Vocalist in 1994, is the first major country music artist to make such an announcement. “There had never, ever been a country music artist.
Who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality,” Chely Wright adds. On May 4, 2010, Chely released her memoir which is entitled “Like Me” and a new album, “Lifted Off The Ground”.
